Invermere Solar Days 2010
It was a fun day in Invermere on Saturday during Solar Days at the Community Greenhouse at David Thompson Secondary School. According to event organizer Bill Swan, with Greenman Sustainable Solutions, the day was filled with learning, disccusion and munching on food - from asaragus to cookies - made in their solar ovens.
"There was also a lead guitar solo powered by solar," says Bill. "A Valley first I'm pretty sure. It was super fun and could not have been done without everyone's contributions."
He said he enjoyed the opportunity to speak with students about future scenarios around energy and their potential career choices. In addition to students an estimated 50 people from Invermere came out to the event.
"I was delighted to be able to join a tour of students and community members on Friday," says Bennie, one participant at the day's events. "What an inspiration. I agree that the further involvement of students in the greenhouse will be a rewarding sign of success. A special thanks to everyone involved in raising the community awareness and educating people about solar energy and other environmentally critical concepts."
