Involved and Inspired

Duncan

The City of Duncan is located between Victoria and Nanaimo on Vancouver Island, with a downtown that features a number of heritage and vintage buildings. Visitors can enjoy the cultural comings and goings in the city’s busy new City Square - part of their revitalization plan – or tour an impressive collection of 80 totems.

Duncan is a very walkable, people-friendly community and their involvement with SolarBC made them a natural choice as a Solar Community. Most recently they passed the Solar Ready regulation bylaw, and in June of 2010 they participated in the 2010 BC Solar Days.

Plans for solar hot water in the city include working with local non-profits and citizen groups, including Cowichan Green Community and Carbon Busters, to set target and develop community outreach plan. They have already undertaken an initial assessment of solar hot water potential for municipal buildings, as part of its Duncan Warmlands Energy Initiative, and the city commits to at least one local government installation.
