"I just had to walk the talk," said Liz. "I could hardly live on the Coast and not take advantage of 2,400 hours of free sunshine we get every year."

Liz installed a system earlier this year on her own home on the Sunshine Coast. "Our solar hot water system was installed in just a day and a half by Terratek, one of the SolarBC registered contractors, and comes with a neat little monitor that we’ve put up in the kitchen to tell us exactly how much money we’re saving."

As well as putting her panels up, Liz also took advantage of the SolarBC zero interest loan, which was available at the time. "I wanted to see for myself just how it worked. It was really simple and quick. I applied online through the SolarBC website and it took less than 24 hours to get approval. With no up front cost and no interest to pay, our monthly payments are $110 a month for 5 years, less than our internet and cable bill."

Liz has worked for eaga since 1990, developing policy, designing and managing energy saving initiatives on behalf of governments, utilities and social housing providers, including a national $300M (CAD equivalent) energy efficiency program in partnership with British Gas. In particular, Liz’s expertise focuses on alleviating the effects of fuel poverty by facilitating access to the benefits of energy efficiency for lower income families.
