Our program included six projects: residential, government buildings, First Nations, social housing, schools and solar community installations across the province.

SolarBC was the most successful solar hot water program in Canada. In three years we’ve installed systems on 546 homes, 14 social housing complexes, 40 schools and 37 local government buildings. Households

Builders and Developers

Thirty-six communities in BC have adopted the Provincial Solar Hot Water Ready Regulation. The regulation requires all new single family homes (where applicable) to be built to accommodate future installs of solar hot water systems for water heating...

Local Governments

SolarBC has appointed 32 SolarBC Communities across the province. These communities, along with other pro-active local governments, have installed solar hot water systems on 37 municipal buildings, with two more buildings committed to installing SHW in 2011...

Schools

The Solar Schools project provided funding and support for the installation of solar hot water and photovoltaic systems on schools. Currently there are 40 schools in BC that have installed solar hot water, with two more underway. We also have eight schools in BC that have installed solar PV and  another nine schools are in the midst of installing PV systems.»

Social Housing

There were 14 solar hot water installs that were completed in BC under the SolarBC social housing project....

First Nations

The SolarBC Incentive for First Nations housing was funded by the Government of British Columbia, and was delivered in cooperation with Natural Resources Canada’s (NRCan) federal ecoENERGY for Renewable Heat program.
