SolarBC would like to give a huge thank-you to the communities and organizations that participated in this year's activities and for their hard work in organizing and implementing their Solar Days events, all of which has been a fantastic success on a whole. As well, all of our homeowners who hosted the open houses deserve a province-wide round of applause! Many were not expecting the huge crowds that came out and for their generosity and hospitality, as well as their enthusiasm in sharing their solar experiences with others we are very grateful.

(From the Pembina Institute): The West Moberly First Nations — a community whose backyard is criss-crossed by conventional energy development — is leading the way on green energy solutions. Earlier this year, West Moberly completed a Community Energy Plan that outlined how the community could reduce its energy use through conservation, energy efficiency, and renewable energy opportunities, including solar hot water and wind.

SolarBC is pleased to present the six leading communities who will become solar-friendly and an integral part of British Columbia’s sustainable energy future. This announcement was officially made today by Premier Gordon Campbell at the Union of British Columbia Municipalities convention in Penticton.

“These communities are demonstrating how solar technology can be a viable part of a community’s energy solution,” said Premier Campbell. “British Columbians embrace innovative and sustainable energy solutions, and with programs like SolarBC, the Province is demonstrating its commitment to becoming energy self-sufficient while tackling climate change.”
