Whistler Becomes Seventh Solar Community
SolarBC Welcomes Region At 2009 Solar Summit
The Regional Municipality of Whistler was unveiled as the seventh Solar Community with SolarBC, during the 2009 BC Solar Summit on February 20. The Region was recognized for their leadership and innovation in the deployment of solar hot water and other solar technologies in their community.
“Whistler is very pleased to have been chosen for this award,” said Mayor Ken Melamed. “We are very appreciative of the work that Solar BC is doing to promote energy wise building choices, and excited to join the other communities around BC in accelerating this initiative.”
Whistler received the honour for their outstanding commitment to being a green city and employing many solar initiatives to date – from solar parking to a solar powered self-compacting waste disposal bin. They are also currently developing Solar Access Protection Guidelines for Whistler Village.
