Residents who install a solar hot-water system will receive up to four $500 grants thanks to a policy adopted by council unanimously this week.
According to Bob Long, Tofino’s chief operating officer, students would install the systems, and installation would occur in conjunction with a possible solar hot-water installation workshop to train local builders.
The four $500 grants would also allow builders with no previous installation experience to become certified installers. To receive certification, students must install four systems.
In 2008, Tofino was designated a Solar Community.
Solar BC granted the community $20,000.
