The Saanich open house held by the district during the Solar Days weekend on Saturday May 29 had over 300 residents stopping by to check out the booths and learn about solar hot water. "It was the best turn out we have ever had," says Mark Boysen, sustainability coordinator for the district. "We had very good feedback from the public, people were lining up to talk solar."

Members of the community came streaming through the doors from 10:00 am until 2:00 pm, According to J Scott, with Illuminate Solar, one of the companies with a booth at the show. While she said there was hardly time to eat lunch she was able to snap a picture of a gentleman wearing a solar back pack.

There was also a solar colouring book set up at a kids table, which went over well with the kids and adults. "It gave the kids something to do, so the parents could listen to the solar presentations with their full attention."

Afterwords she said people stayed to absorb all they could from the information offered. "I told countless people about SolarBC's solar rating tool. I even talked to people who had already used it."

Also in Saanich during the Solar Days weekend was also a workshop on the Friday, May 28, with municipal inspectors from around the CRD to discuss the solar checklist. "I believe it was informative and a good discussion was had," says Mark.
