Saanich Hosting Solar Hot Water Open House to Connect Residents with Green Energy
The municipality of Saanich is hosting an informative open house on solar hot water systems to connect local residents with industry experts and installers. Come by for five minutes or five hours, to talk with the experts and learn why now is the time to put a solar hot water system in your house.
Date: June 3rd, 2009
Time: 2pm – 7pm
Location: Saanich Municipal Hall, Council Chambers
This free public event will give residents a chance to meet with SolarBC and Saanich staff and have all questions on this technology and rebates answered. Then visitors can meet with SolarBC certified installers who will have products available for viewing on-site.
Saanich was selected as a Solar Community by SolarBC in 2008 which provided the municipality with funding to promote solar hot water systems in the community. A goal of 400 residential installations by 2010 has been set for Saanich, along with the installation of a system in at least one municipal building.
Solar hot water systems reduce your energy bills by converting sunlight into heat through solar collectors mounted on the roof. Water, or a water/antifreeze solution, carries heat from the collectors and pumps it through a heat exchanger to a tank for storage and subsequent use.
Solar water heaters have numerous benefits. Not only will you reduce your hot water heating costs you’ll also be directly reducing greenhouse gas emissions by saving up to two tonnes of CO2 per year. If Saanich reaches its target, that would mean a reduction of 800 tonnes in annual CO2 emissions.
